What to Expect at a Transformation

By Kelly Maxwell, Founder and Master Extension Stylist at Kelly Maxwell Hair Extensions. Meet Kelly.
If you have never sat in the chair for a hair transformation, a little nervousness is completely normal. This is personal. I have had women cry before we even start, and I never take that lightly. So let me walk you through exactly what the day looks like, because knowing what to expect takes most of the fear out of it.
What happens at a hair transformation appointment?
It starts with a real consultation about your hair and your goals, moves into color matching and prep, then the install itself, which can take two to five hours depending on the system. You leave with full instructions for home care and a move-up already booked. Plan on the first visit taking longer than your maintenance visits will.
It starts with a conversation
Before I touch anything, we talk. I want to understand your hair history, your lifestyle, what you have tried, and most of all how you want to feel when you look in the mirror. This is your time to tell me everything and ask anything. I do not rush this part, because a great result is decided here, not at the end.
Color matching and prep
Next I match your shade. Because my wefts come custom rooted, a lot of the matching work is already done, but I still check your hair against a physical color ring in real light. We prep your natural hair, section carefully, and build the foundation if your system uses one. This is the quiet, precise part of the day.
The install
Then the actual work. Depending on whether it is wefts, a mesh system, or a full custom piece, this runs anywhere from two to five hours. I keep it comfortable, I explain what I am doing as I go, and I check in with you throughout. When it is done, we style it together so you see how it moves.
The reveal, and the part that matters most
The mirror moment is why I do this work. But before you leave, we cover home care in detail and I book your move-up, usually four to eight weeks out. You walk out knowing exactly how to keep it beautiful. That is not an afterthought. It is how the result lasts.
How to prepare
Come with clean, dry hair unless I tell you otherwise, eat beforehand because it is a long appointment, and bring photos of what you love. The more honestly you share, the better I can give you what you actually want.
