Mesh Integration Aftercare: Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Guide

Mesh Integration Aftercare: Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Guide

Your install cost hundreds of dollars. Your aftercare habits are what protect that investment. Follow this protocol and your install will look better at month 8 than most clients' installs look at month 4.

Daily Habits

Every day: gently brush from ends up with a soft-bristle or loop brush designed for extensions. Never brush from root down. Do not apply oil-based products at the mesh attachment area. Do not tug or twist near the mesh. Style with heat protectant if using hot tools. Sleep with hair loosely braided or in a low ponytail on a silk pillowcase.

Weekly Habits

Wash 2 to 3 times per week with sulfate-free shampoo, applying at the scalp only. Condition mid-shaft to ends, never at the mesh. Rinse thoroughly with cool water. Air dry or blow dry on cool setting until 80% dry, then finish with medium heat. Do a deep conditioning treatment on the mid-shaft and ends once a week. Never deep condition at the mesh attachment.

Monthly Habits

Check the mesh attachment points visually. Look for any slippage, matting, or discoloration. Take photos so you can compare month to month. If you see anything that looks off, contact your stylist before your next maintenance visit. Do not attempt to fix issues at home.

What to Avoid

Regular shampoo (sulfates strip the cuticle). Regular brushes (they catch on wefts). Oil-based products at the mesh. Sleeping with wet hair. Home color services. Chlorinated water without rinse. Pulling on the install.

Products You Actually Need

Sulfate-free shampoo, an extension-safe conditioner, an extension brush (loop or soft-bristle), a silk pillowcase, a heat protectant spray, and a leave-in detangler. That is it. Any product beyond this list should be cleared with your stylist first.

The Realistic Timeline

Weeks 1 to 2 are the adjustment period. Weeks 3 to 6 are the peak look. Weeks 7 to 8 usually need maintenance. With good aftercare, a mesh integration install can look strong through 8 to 12 months of continuous wear with regular maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I wash my mesh integration?

Two to three times per week. Less than that causes buildup; more damages the install over time.

Can I use dry shampoo?

Yes, sparingly. Apply to the scalp, not to the mesh area.

Which conditioner is safe?

Any sulfate-free, silicone-heavy conditioner is fine, applied only to the mid-shaft and ends.

Can I skip a maintenance visit?

No. Delayed maintenance is the number one cause of install damage.

What if I see slippage between visits?

Contact your stylist immediately and book an earlier maintenance visit.
