Common Mesh Integration Problems and How Your Stylist Fixes Them

Mesh integration is durable, but no install is perfect for 12 months straight. Every wearer hits a small issue eventually. The important thing is to know what is normal, what is not, and when to call your stylist. Here are the most common problems I fix in my chair.

Slippage at the Front Edge

Some settling in the first two weeks is normal. Slippage after that usually means the front edge of the mesh has loosened, often because of oil-based product buildup or too much tension during styling. Fix: your stylist will clean the attachment, re-secure the front edge, and check the product routine you are using at home.

Itching Under the Mesh

Some mild scalp adjustment is normal in week 1. Persistent itching usually means product buildup, sweat trapped under the mesh, or the install is too tight. Fix: your stylist will assess whether the mesh needs relief, whether your wash schedule needs adjusting, or whether a scalp treatment is appropriate.

Matting at the Weft Attachment

Matting almost always comes from brushing incorrectly (from the root down instead of ends up) or from sleeping with wet hair. Fix: the stylist will gently detangle from the ends up, may need to remove and reattach any severely matted wefts, and will review your aftercare routine.

Discoloration of the Mesh

The mesh can yellow over time from product residue, sun exposure, or chlorine. Fix: at maintenance, the stylist assesses whether the yellowing is superficial (cleanable) or structural (the mesh needs replacement).

Extension Ends Looking Thin

This is normal wear starting around month 6 to 9. Fix: individual wefts can often be replaced without pulling the whole install, so the affected sections get refreshed while the rest of the mesh stays intact.

Color Fade

All human Remy hair fades over time, especially in copper, red, and light blonde shades. Fix: your stylist can refresh color with a professional deposit-only glaze, never at-home color.

What to Never Do at Home

Do not cut or trim the extensions yourself. Do not attempt to reattach a slipping weft. Do not use scissors near the mesh. Do not apply home color. Call your stylist for any problem.
