How to Become a Certified Kelly Maxwell Stylist
Kelly Maxwell Hair Extensions is a licensed-cosmetologist-only brand that grants regional exclusivity to approved stylists. That means one stylist per metropolitan territory holds protected access to the line. Here is the full application process, what the review looks like, and what happens after approval.
Who Should Apply
The approved-stylist program is for licensed cosmetologists actively working with hair extensions. That includes stylists doing hand-tied installs, machine weft rows, mesh integration, meshless installs, K-tip fusion work, and hair replacement services. Stylists in cosmetology school should apply after licensure.
Step 1: Confirm Your Territory is Open
Regional exclusivity means each metropolitan territory can support one approved stylist. Larger metros (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, DC) are reviewed by borough, neighborhood, or sub-market. Mid-size cities are reviewed at the city level. The Find a Stylist page shows the 25 metros currently in active coverage.
Step 2: Submit the Application
The application asks for your licensing information, salon address, years of extension experience, install methodologies you offer, and portfolio work samples. Applications are reviewed in the order received.
Step 3: Wait for the Review Response
The team responds within 7 business days with one of three outcomes: approval, a request for additional information (portfolio, references, or a video consultation), or a notification that your specific territory is currently closed to new stylists.
Step 4: Onboarding
Approved stylists receive: wholesale pricing access, a shade-matching consultation, product specification documentation, listing on the appropriate city page, brand assets for salon and social use, and a direct contact at Kelly Maxwell for shade orders and support.
What Approved Stylists Get Access To
The full catalog: 32 affirmation-named hand-tied wefts (18 to 30 inches, custom rooted, 60% true double drawn density, 10-inch width), matching 3x5 mesh closures at 33 grams, the Mesh + Meshless Kit and Mesh Essentials Bundle, foundation materials (mesh fabric, PU fabric, Swiss ventilating lace, toupee lace), the full tool catalog (Bead Crusher, K-Tip fusion tool, Golden Scissor, Pliers, Ventilating hook, Crochet Hook), supplies (Install Tape, Thread, Invisible Thread, Wig Block Pins), beads and loops in 5 color matches and 2 sizes, the Color Ring and Texture Ring, and education tools.
What You Do Not Get
Kelly Maxwell does not sell to consumers directly. Approved stylists purchase for their salon or professional practice and install for clients. The regional exclusivity model exists to protect that pipeline.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the application cost?
The application itself is free. Wholesale pricing is disclosed to approved stylists after approval.
How long does approval take?
Response within 7 business days of application submission.
What if my territory is already covered?
The team will let you know if your specific city or sub-market is closed. In larger metros, adjacent sub-markets may still be open.
Can I still apply if I am new to extensions?
Yes, if you are a licensed cosmetologist. The application asks about your experience, but early-career stylists are considered based on portfolio and territory need.
Does the brand offer training?
Product-specific training and shade-matching consultation is included with approval. Install method training (hand-tied, mesh, K-tip) is your responsibility to already have or to pursue separately.
